Participating in Maintenance of Certification (MOC) demonstrates a commitment to higher standards in the practice of ophthalmology. In addition to the benefits of assessing current skills and staying up to date in practice, below are some other ways diplomates can maximize your participation in MOC.
Claim CME Credit for MOC
The American Medical Association (AMA) will reward the work diplomates do to maintain ABO certification with up to 60 AMA PRA Category 1 credits upon completion of the 10-year cycle. To claim these credits, diplomates must complete the online form and submit a copy of their certificate or MOC completion letter from the Board Office. (For certifications completed prior to September 1, 2010, 25 AMA PRA Category 1 credits will be awarded.)
Promote MOC Participation
Diplomates are invited to download their personalized MOC Participation web badge. All diplomates participating in MOC can download a custom webpage for their practice websites or social media profiles. Each badge links directly to the ABO verification page for that diplomate's certification status.
The web badge is generated through the Public Profile section of the MOC Status Page. The Public Profile tool is optional profile can help prospective patients find diplomate practice information. On the Public Profile, diplomates can add their photo, educational background, and practice contact information and website.
Diplomates should log into their MOC Status Page and click "Public Profile" to update their information and claim their badge.
