The American Board of Ophthalmology is committed to continuously enriching the value of certification for practicing ophthalmologists. To that end, we cultivate strong relationships with various subspecialty societies within the profession by identifying liaisons to serve as intermediaries between their respective organizations and the ABO. Liaisons typically serve in this capacity for 2-4 years. Diplomates selected as liaisons must be in active clinical practice, participate in the Continuing Certification program, and have the time and commitment to:
- Report annually to the ABO on subspecialty organization priorities and activities, highlighting requests for the ABO and potential areas for collaboration;
- Assist the ABO in communicating with the organization’s leadership and membership, and identify promising individuals to serve on various ABO committees and other activities; and,
- Participate in ABO initiatives, such as contributing to the ABO’s Quarterly Questions program by identifying “must-read” subspecialty articles from recent peer-reviewed literature.
